Growing out of the landscape, and pointing to a stunning view, this weekender subverts the traditional beach house language. A simple rectangle in plan, the section of the site offers up a range of conditions. The eastern end of the design, housing a cellar and water recycling facilities, is buried into the steep site. The western living end of the house is dramatically cantilevered over a sandstone cliff on the site. In the middle, the rectangular form is broken to provide a private courtyard to the master bedroom. The concrete block walls and exposed slabs are offset with a delicate filagree of timber and steel window framing.
